We bet you have heard people say that “once you go, you have to keep going back to the chiropractor.” This is true and not so true (but should be true). Let us answer this question for you!
When you come to Carlson Chiropractic Center for back pain, we will give you an exam and suggest a proper chiropractic protocol for your ailment. This might involve several fairly frequent visits for adjustments over several months. This is like us prescribing you an antibiotic that you need to take once a day for 14 days to get rid of an infection. If you take one pill, you are not going to get better. All medication must be taken, just like all adjustments should be administered by our trained chiropractic doctors in a timely fashion.
Most often, people wait until they are in a lot of pain before seeking help. They have weeks, months, years, or even decades of problems before they come to the chiropractor. Our doctors are good, but unfortunately, the human body can’t be fixed with one adjustment if the problems have been neglected.
Chiropractic is a bit like going to the gym. At first, you feel a little better and energized because you have finally made the commitment to improve your body. You don’t see a change in the mirror for a period of time. Chiropractic treatment is a much more complex process than a vertebrae being ‘in’ or ‘out.’ It’s retraining the body, and that takes time. Pain is the last symptom to show up and the first to leave.
Once your pain has been relieved, it is highly recommended to keep maintenance appointments scheduled. That is only if you want your body to function at its highest potential. It’s just like returning to the dentist for regular cleaning and checkups once all the cavities have been filled. No one wants to wait until their teeth fall out before going to the dentist!
Why would you neglect your spine? After all, there is no such thing as a spine transplant. We only get one shot with our spine, so we encourage our patients to take care of it!
