As you and your loving husband have grown in many ways over the years, you may notice that some of his unhealthy habits have grown as well. The truth is, even the most dashing and fit looking man can struggle to stay healthy as time moves on. Whether your husband has been dealing with neck and back pain or you can’t seem to get him off the golf course and into the gym, staying fit and eating healthy as he gets older is very important. Sticking to a proper diet and exercising regularly is good for his heart health, his joints and spine, and for his mental health as well. Give your hubby the gift of a healthier and happier lifestyle and try one of these ideas:
“Spike” His Food with Omega-3’s
One of the easiest ways to make sure your husband is eating healthy is to take control in the kitchen at least a few times a week. Skip the drive-thru and cook healthy and tasty meals at home. Just be sure to include delicious and nutritious foods that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids like salmon, tuna, oysters, avocados and walnuts.
Don’t Mention the “Diet” Word
Keep things light and make subtle changes to the way you eat in order to avoid scaring him off healthy foods. Suggest a “meatless Monday” or make a new rule that you only eat out once a week to help keep him in the kitchen and away from junk food. This will help improve your family health and save money too.
Book a Vacation
Sometimes all you need to feel refreshed both physically and mentally is some time away from your day-to-day life. Book a vacation that will keep you both active and out for a bit of adventuring. Even if you just head out for a long weekend of hiking or choose to finally head out on that cruise overseas, some well-deserved time away together is always a great idea. Can’t really splurge for a luxury vacation? Consider a staycation and take one or two days of work off together and plan relaxing things to do close to home. If you stay at home just make sure you have a list of things that are “off-limits” like TV watching, catching up on the laundry or any household chores. It’s a vacation, after all!
Take Him to the Chiropractor
Whether your husband spends his days working behind a desk or you’re simply sick of hearing him complain about his neck and lower back pain, sending him to the chiropractor for an adjustment is a great way to keep him healthy and pain free. A good chiropractor will be able to suggest a long-term treatment plan that will specifically target any aches and pains your husband may be dealing with and help him stay limber for many years to come.
Buy Him a Gym Membership
While some men are happy to join the gym on their own, others may need more than a gentle nudge in the right direction. Buy a trial gym membership that you can both use to check out a wide variety of workout options. Most modern gyms have a ton of fun classes including yoga, cycling, boxing, Zumba and more. Each of these are great options for increasing flexibility, burning fat and strengthening your core to help support your neck and spine. Keep in mind that most men don’t join a gym to attend a fitness class. Ask someone at the gym to give you a great tour of the free weights and be willing to do a weight circuit of your own to let him try it out.
Your husband’s health is tied to yours. We all get overwhelmed with all of the healthy things we “should” be doing, but it’s important to think about small changes you can make to dramatically improve your health.
